Kundalini Yoga is an ancient style of yoga brought to North America in 1968 from India by Yogi Bhajan. Kundalini Yoga combines asanas (postures), sound, mantras (chanting), and pranayam (breathing) to achieve focus on one’s own physical, emotional, mental and spiritual self.
“The practice of Kundalini Yogi balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system and enables us to harness the energy of the mind and the emotions, so we can be in control of ourselves, rather than being controlled by our thoughts and feelings.” Kundalini Research Institue
A Kundalini Yoga class incorporates five steps:
1. ‘Tuning In’,
2. Kriya - a combination of
postures, mantras and
breathing,
3. Relaxation,
4. Meditation,
5. Closing (ending the class)
Please note...
Yoga classes for children incorporate these steps but are much more flexible, fun and geared to children!
